LUMERA LASER GmbH develops and manufactures picosecond lasers (ps-lasers) for micro-processing. These ultra-short pulse lasers offer a new quality in laser micro-machining by cold ablation, a cold removal of very thin material layers, nearly without any thermal side-effects like burrs and micro-cracks. These ps-lasers allow to micro-structure any material, also materials, that are very difficult to process by mechanical means. Industrial picosecond lasers are universal tools for micro-processing without mechanical force, without wear and tear and without thermal damages. To the work piece; they are completely software controlled and easy to integrate in industrial units. They are flexible, cost-effective and reliable. These ultrafast lasers interact with material in micromachining applications very similar as femtosecond lasers do; but with much higher average power, higher rep rates, higher throughput, higher reliability but with a fraction of cost.

Industrial ps-lasers are used for micro-structuring surfaces, to micro-cut and micro drill thin materials up to a few millimetres thickness with aspect ratios up to about 1 to 10.

Applications include the manufacture of steel-masks for the display industry, micro-structuring semicon and solar cell layers, repair of lithographic masks, manufacture of micro-vias and micro-markings, the structuring of material surfaces to change their properties, (e.g., reduction of friction).

The product program of LUMERA includes industrial ps-lasers of the RAPID series. The SUPER RAPID and the HYPER RAPID are ps-lasers with additional amplifiers, for pulse energies up to 200 µJ, pulse rates up to 1 MHz, and up to 50 W average power at excellent beam quality.

LUMERA LASER develops and manufactures advanced lasers with excellent beam quality for industrial applications.

LUMERA LASER pioneered the development of industrial picosecond lasers: The RAPID series.

Microprocessing (groove, cut, drill, micromill, etc.) with our ps-lasers is

precise

  • no thermal side-effects such as microcracks, burrs, or recast
  • lateral resolution as small as a few µm
  • depth control in the order of 10nm

versatile

  • virtually any material
  • simple, flexible software commands; CAD input
  • pulses-on-demand for easy integration into delivery systems

cost efficient

  • high throughput due to high pulse repetition rates
  • industrial reliability
  • low cost of ownership

Whenever value creation depends on high quality structuring of surfaces or thin materials, ps-laser microprocessing is likely the superior choice
